In 77 countries around the world, MU members are involved in a wide range of community projects, ranging from running small scale farming initiatives in Uganda, to setting up family support groups in prisons (see below) around the UK.
Whatever the needs of a community, the MU is willing to help. In developing countries our members run workshops to raise awareness of health issues and improve skills; they organise income-generating projects in farming or craft production; and they work to support families affected by HIV/AIDS.
In the UK, MU members are helping in contact centres, parent and toddler groups and play schemes, as well as working with families affected by imprisonment. There are also a number of nationwide projects, such as the hugely successful Away From It All holiday (see below) scheme, which enables families in need to have a much-needed break. Other schemes include the MU accredited Parenting Programme, which trains MU members to run parenting groups in the community. There is also a range of MU resources on drugs and media awareness which are used by parents across the UK and Ireland.
Project funding
Thanks to donations and fundraising activities, the MU is able to offer grants from three funds to support hundreds of community projects:
The UK and Ireland fund, which helps pay for local and national programmes;
The Overseas fund, which pays for the projects, training programmes and equipment needed in developing countries and also helps meet the costs of MU Workers abroad;
The Emergency Relief fund, which helps support communities affected by natural disasters such as flood, famine and drought, as well as helping refugees from war torn areas.
Help us continue our work worldwide by donating to our projects.
